Burwell. R. Winslow passed away on Dec. 9, 2014 at his home. He was born in Perquimans County Sept. 1, 1933 and was a long time resident of Suffolk. He was a graduate of East Carolina University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Planters Peanuts for thirty plus years before retiring. The day after he retired, he went to work with his brother-in-law, Bud Perry, at C. A. Perry & Son, Inc. in Chowan County, and that is where he spent his happiest days. Burwell was a true outdoors man who loved quail hunting, fishing, and working his bird dogs with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Alvis Perry Winslow; two daughters, Catherine Winslow Evanoff and husband Joe, and Linda Winslow Jernigan; grandchildren, Emily Evanoff Turner and husband John, Elizabeth Evanoff Ryan and husband Kevin, Catherine Evanoff, Lauren Jernigan, Meredith Jernigan, Fleet Jernigan and Chandler Jernigan and a great grandson, Lincoln Turner. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews all of whom he adored. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the family burial site at Warwick Baptist Church in Chowan County, NC. Officiating will be a very close friend, Pastor Jim Harrison from Harrisonburg, VA. In accordance to his wishes, following the service, there will be a gathering of friends and relatives at his home, 536 W. Riverview Dr., Suffolk, to celebrate his life. R.W. Baker & Co.
