Viola Chappell Hollowell

Viola Chappell Hollowell, 88, of 306 Ryland Road, Tyner, NC, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Mrs. Hollowell was born in Perquimans County on January 15, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Ralph Benjamin and Helen Dough Chappell. As a child she was raised in the fellowship of Chappell Hill Baptist Church, after marriage became a faithful member of Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church, and was active in its Rosalind Harrell Missionary Group and the Aurelia Leary Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.H. Hollowell, and by her son, Ralph A. Hollowell. Surviving are her daughter, Gloria A. Hollowell; her son, John Lee Hollowell and wife LaWanda, all of Tyner; her sister, Sybil Broughton Lucks of Reno, NV; five grandchildren, John R. Hollowell, Ryan Hollowell and wife Sandy, and Travis Hollowell, all of Tyner, Daniel Hollowell and wife Allison of Greenville, and Wendy Miller and husband Will of Gates; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Skylar, John Henry, Dakota, Braxton, Ryleigh, and Avery; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Ballard's Bridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
