Dutchie Spear, Sr.

Dutchie Spear, Sr. 95, of 558 Deep Creek Road, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in his home. Mr. Spear was born in Tyrrell County on September 19, 1919, and was the son of the late Bail and Crettie Allen Spear. A retired farmer, he was a member of Berea Church of Christ and an honorary member of New Hope Hunting Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Clifton Spear; two sisters, four brothers, one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Surviving are his four daughters, Rebecca Jarman and husband Johnny of Hertford, Aundra Harrell and husband Larry of Edenton, Tanya Spear and Shelia Edwards, both of Hertford; two sons, Jackie Spear and wife Arlene of Hertford and Dutchie Spear, Jr. and wife Cindy of Elizabeth City; a brother, Leo Spear of Henderson, NV; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Berea Church of Christ officiated by Harold Rutledge. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and all other times at the residence.
