Bertha Howell Askew, 87, of 152 Hill Lane Road, Eure, NC, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA. Mrs. Askew was born in Gates County on January 12, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Walter Nathan and Michial Lilley Howell. A retired seamstress, she had worked at US Industries, Harrellsville Apparel Company, and Dalure Fashions. She was a member of Eure Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Elliott Askew; a daughter, Linda Ann Askew; a son, Kelly Ray Askew; her sister, Virginia Felton; and her brother, Carlos Howell. Surviving are three daughters, Esther Askew Greene and husband Johnny, Kay Askew Greene and husband Larry, and Beth Askew Perry and husband Mickey; and a son, Wayne Askew, all of Eure; six grandchildren, Susan Buck and husband Bryan, Johnny Greene, III and wife Shirley, Sherry Grant and husband Johnny, Jesica Johnson and husband John, Anne Harrison and husband Trey, and Bracey Perry and wife Crystal; and nine great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jack, Katie, Will, Lilly, Caroline, Rebecca, Abbie, and Gunner. Funeral services will Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. Burial will follow on the family plot at the church. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the home of Esther and Johnny Greene, 117 Hill Lane Road, Eure.
