Douglas Wayne Cale, Sr.

Douglas Wayne Cale, Sr., 77, of 395 Summerfield Road, Roper, NC, died Monday, January 19, 2015 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mr. Cale was born in Chowan County on April 22, 1937, and was the son of the late Grover Douglas and Effie Bunch Cale. The retired owner and operator of Edenton Trading Post, he was a member of Edenton Baptist Church and had served in the North Carolina National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Simpson. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Barbara Ricks Cale; a daughter, Lynn Cale Bassett and husband John of Edenton; a son, Douglas Wayne Cale, Jr. and wife Alissa of Roper; a sister, Doris Jean Kern and husband Richard of Edenton; and four grandchildren, Jonathan and Julianna Bassett and Audrey and Troy Cale. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service on Thursday, or all other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 South Granville Street, Edenton, NC 27932. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
