Harold Lorenzo Wise, Sr.

Harold Lorenzo Wise, Sr., 89, of Edenton, NC, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Vintage Inn, Williamston, NC. Mr. Wise was born in Marion, OH on July 9, 1925, and was the son of the late Merle and Mable Wise. He joined the U.S. Navy serving for over 26 years and was a veteran of WW II, the Korean War and Vietnam and worked in the U.S. Customs Service. While in the Navy he served and photographed three U.S. Presidents and was assigned to Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara during the Cuban missile crises supplying the intelligence photographs for President Kennedy. He was asked to be Jackie Kennedy's White House photographer but turned it down because of his commitment to his family and five children at home. Mr. Wise was also active as part of a lay ministry team traveling across the United States presenting seminars on witnessing to church groups, and was a member of the Snug Harbor Community Church in Hertford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Charles Howser of Marion, OH. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Linda Warren Wise; a son, Harold L Wise, Jr. and wife Arliss of Greenville; a son, Steve Wise and wife Diana of Kill Devil Hills; a son, Greg Wise and wife Cindy of Kill Devil Hills, a daughter, Susanna Parks and husband John of Severna Park, MD; a son David Wise of Kill Devil Hills; a granddaughter, Jamie James and husband Hosea; a granddaughter, Jeri Wise; a grandson Sean Wise and wife Kelly; a granddaughter, Rebecca Hubley and husband Kevin; a grandson, John Parks and wife Chrissy; a grandson, Paul Parks; a grandson, Jason Wise; and 6 great-grandchildren, Kiana, Kaila, Joshua, Isaiah, Parker, and Mahala. He is also survived by a niece, Marilyn Lawrence and a nephew, Robert Howser both of Marion, OH. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, by the Rev. Greg Wise, son of the deceased. Burial with military honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC. Friends may join the family Friday in the funeral home the hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SAIL Ministries, or to Hukilau Surf Camp, both at 105 John Cabot Court, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
