Glenda Paige Newsom Turner, 69, of 104 Canal Drive, Camden, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, February 5, 2015, from her home in Camden, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for the past seven years. Glenda was born in Southampton County, VA on June 18, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Roma and Oretha Newsom. A retired executive assistant at Union Camp Corporation, now International Paper, in Franklin, VA, she was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. Favorite times were those spent with her family, and playing board games, a hobby of which she possessed excellent skills. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Irene N. O'Meara. Surviving are her husband of 15 years, Edward A. Turner; a son, Andrew Brian Drewry of Franklin; three sisters, Audrey Padgett and husband Donald of Walters, VA, Edna Butler and husband Marvin of Hunterdale, VA, and Laura Stieh and husband Jesse of Franklin; and three brothers, Roland Newsom and wife Ryland of Sedley, VA, Wendell Newsom of Hunterdale, and Clayton Newsom and wife Joan of Franklin. Also surviving are Ed's children, Allen Turner and wife Sharon of Atlanta, GA, Jay Turner and wife Tori of Clearmont, FL, and Kathy Turner of Anchorage, AK. Together Glenda and Ed share four grandchildren, Ethan, Brianna, Payton, and Emma. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m. in Corinth Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Johnson. Friends may join the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following that service. Inurnment in the Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 34163 Vicksville Road, Franklin, VA will be held Sunday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. A time of fellowship will also follow that service.
