Carroll Wood Jones

Carroll Wood Jones, 79, of 109 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, February 9, 2015 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC. Mr. Jones was a long-time resident of Chowan County and was born on October, 16, 1935, the son of the late Frank Robert and Eunice Davis Jones. A Platoon Sergeant with the North Carolina National Guard with 42 years of service, he was the AST in the Edenton office, and retired as the Support Services Supervisor. A member, deacon, and former long-time treasurer of Macedonia Baptist Church, he had also enjoyed membership in the Advance Ruritan Club, and had dedicated his time for over 27 years as a Little League baseball coach in the Edenton-Chowan County Recreation Dept. For these community involvements and his work in the National Guard, Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. awarded him The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state's highest honor, in 1995. Surviving are his wife, Alice Parrish Jones, with whom he would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on February 21st; a daughter, Susan Jones Halloran and husband Robert of Richmond, VA; two sons, Allen Jones and wife Lora of Edenton and Bobby Jones and wife Krenia of Sanford; a sister, Jean Griffin of Manteo; 12 grandchildren, Martha, Frank, Mary Alice, Helen, Allen Donald, Lindsey, Daniel, Clinton, Hunter, Jan, Samantha, and Jessica; and 10 great-grandchildren, Taiten, Jadie, Holton, Tayler, Autumn, Daycee, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Savana, and Kaylee. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Young. Military honors will be accorded on the church lawn prior to a private burial in Beaver Hill Cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements.
