C. Wayne Messex

Carrol Wayne Messex, husband, father, Papa, and friend, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in Hertford, NC after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 71. Wayne was born in Pulaski, TN on November 11, 1943 to Irene Vincent and was adopted by her husband, Grady Howard Messex, when he was two. Wayne retired from the Skippy Peanut Butter plant after 25 years of employment, and enjoyed various other maintenance jobs until he retired on disability in 2002 to live at the "beach house" on the Albemarle Sound. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Doris Jean Podruchny Messex, and by his best friend, Gary Bell. He leaves behind a son, Howard Messex and wife Christine; a daughter, Janet Kendall and husband Michael; grandchildren, Aaron and Sarah Kendall, and Victoria, Megan, and Kimberly Messex; his sister, Gwyn Thomason and husband Gary; as well as many other friends and family members. Per Wayne's request, a private service will be held at a later date.
