Audrey Nell White Byrum, 90, formerly of 98 Morris Circle, Edenton, NC, and more recently of the Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, NC, died there on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Mrs. Byrum was born in Bertie County on November 9, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Joe A. and Nellie Cropsey Taylor White. A homemaker, she was long-time member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C. Byrum, Jr.; a sister, Edith W. Ward, and by two brothers, Joe Taylor White and Jesse W. White. Surviving are two sons, J. Michael Phelps and wife Norma of Mechanicsville, VA and J. Scott Phelps and wife Mimi of Hampstead, NC; five grandchildren, Ryan S. Phelps, J. Matthew Phelps, Jessica Phelps LaFlame, Christopher D. Becherer, and Jennifer L. Becherer; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte E. Phelps, Davis S. Phelps, and Claire A. Phelps; two sisters, Sue W. Davidson and Shirley W. Miller; and by a brother, Bill E. White. Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by Dr. James Horton. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the service, or again immediately following the service on Saturday.
