Hubert Lee Jordan, Sr.

Hubert Lee Jordan, Sr., 90, of 823 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 in his home. Mr. Jordan was born in Chowan County on August 16, 1924, and was the son of the late Ollie Norman and Annie Chappell Jordan. A farmer and produce trader, he was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 86th Blackhawk Infantry Division, and saw combat in both the European-African and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters, where he received the Bronze Star Medal. He attended Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Easter Goodwin Jordan, a sister who died as a child, Sarah Jordan, sisters, Beulah Goodwin, Lillian Rhodes, and Ruth Longacre, and by brothers, Wilber and Cary Jordan. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Margaret Copeland Jordan; a daughter, Joyce J. Lassiter and husband Edsel of Edenton; three sons, Hubert Lee Jordan, Jr. and wife Ruth of Edenton, Donald Earl Jordan of Tyner, and Michael Wayne Jordan and wife Kim of Winterville, NC; five sisters, Hazel Davis and Lois Jordan, both of Tyner, Louise Dail of Hertford, Doris McGue of Hatfield, PA and Nettie Sue Rogiano of Norristown, PA; two brothers, Robert Jordan of Smithfield, VA and James Jordan of Tyner; six grandchildren, Katie Lassiter Denniston and husband Jim, Jennifer Lassiter Job and husband Zach, Amy Chappell and husband Heath, Chad Jordan and wife Lora, Joseph Jordan and wife Holly, and Justin Jordan; and three great-grandsons, Bowen and Wyatt Chappell, and Jamie Denniston. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Walter Byrum. Military honors will be accorded in the chapel and a private burial will follow in the Copeland Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
