Janis Ambrose Smith

Janis Ambrose Smith, 75, of 221 Griffin Road, Roper, NC, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in her home. Mrs. Smith was born in Martin County on April 30, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Wilson E. and Sudie Lewis Ambrose. A homemaker, she also had taught ceramics, and was a member of Williams Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robby Justin Smith. Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Smith Sasser and husband Lee of Jamesville; a son, Derrick Owen Smith of Roper; a daughter-in-law, Vann Haskett Smith of Plymouth; two sisters, Ruth Styons and Shelvia Owens, both of Plymouth; a brother, Earl Ambrose of Roper; six grandchildren, Justin, Journey, Heaven, Luke, Helena, and Paul; and a great-grandchild, Jaden. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Hillside Memorial Gardens, Plymouth, and will be officiated by Elder Johnny Ray Gardner. Friends may join the family at the residence.
