James Melvin "Jimmy" Harrell, 71, of 119 Tinkham Road, Eure, NC, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 in Duke Medical Pavilion, Durham, NC. Mr. Harrell was born in Newport News, VA on March 14, 1944, and was the son of the late Wauzy Melvin Harrell and Garnett Evans Harrell Johnson. A retired Senior Master Sergeant with nearly 25 years of service in the United States Air Force, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his military career, he worked with Pro-Tek Security, and later as an inspector with USDA. A member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, he was a past chairman of the board of deacons, and currently served as the church moderator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Olia Elizabeth Harrell. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Inda Marie Powell Harrell; a daughter, Cynthia Harrell Jeffers and husband John of Goldsboro; a son, James Carlton Harrell and wife Phyllis of Eure; three grandchildren, Christy Bumgardner and husband Kyle, Diana Nicole Harrell, and James Douglas Harrell; and a great-grandchild, Avery James Bumgardner. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Revs. Roger Kiker and Gilbert Crawford. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at the residence.
