Anne Stafford, 91, of 614 Laura Lee Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Monday, March 23, 2015 in W. R. Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. Miss Stafford was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 31, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Russell H. and Lillian Crist Stafford. She attended the University of Michigan and later graduated from Interboro Institute in New York. Retired from Cigna Corporation, she was a member of First Church of Windsor (Congregational) in Windsor, CT, and was a strong supporter of Brevard School of Music and the Metropolitan Opera Guild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Stafford and his wife Eleanor, and by a nephew, Jeffrey Stafford. Surviving are her three nieces, Louise Stafford and husband Chuck Ryan, Lee Stafford and husband Michael Rafferty, and Kendall Stafford, all of Connecticut; and by a dear friend, Jacquelyn White of Elizabeth City. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by the Rev. Dr. Earl W. Bunch. A private inurnment will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Monday and all other times at the residence.
