Alice Chappell Byrum, 100, of 722 Ryland Road, Tyner NC, died Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mrs. Byrum was born in Chowan County on November 3, 1914, and was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lucy Lamb Chappell. A homemaker, she was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was a life-long member of Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, James Lucious Byrum, Sr.; son-in-law, James DeWitt Winslow, great-grandson, Jordan Byrum; two sisters, infant Mildred Chappell and Myra Messner; and four brothers, Carlton, Walton, Louis, and Milton Chappell. Surviving are her two daughters, Joyce B. Byrum and husband William and Dianne B. Winslow, all of Belvidere; a son, James L. Byrum, Jr. and wife Jeanette of Tyner; a sister, Mary C. Winslow of Belvidere; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Tommy Oliver, William Byrum, and Chuck Davis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
