Annie Marie Briggs Goodwin, 84, of 235 Tip Toe Road, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Goodwin was born in Chowan County on January 24, 1931, and was the daughter of the late James Richard and Annie Bivens Briggs. Retired from the Edenton-Chowan School System, for many years she worked in the cafeteria at D.F. Walker Elementary School. A faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, she had taught the Children's 4&5 year old Sunday School Class, had been a nursery worker for more than 20 years, was a member of the Rejoice Sunday School Class, and had been a member of the former Minnie Briggs Circle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edwin Goodwin, and by her brother, Frank Briggs. Surviving are her daughters, Janet Respess and husband Jim of Edenton and Jean Copeland and husband Mark of Askewville; her sister, Evelyn Chappell of Edenton; six grandchildren, Stephanie Harmon, Crystal Simpson, Stacy Taylor, Shellie Harmon, Chris Copeland and Brandon Copeland; and ten great-grandchildren, Tevion, Bailie, Chasiti, Christian, Keiara, Alyssa, Dylan, Aliyah, Mackenzie, and Harrison. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Young. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the Janet and Jim's home, 235 Tip Toe Road.
