Jean Rountree Stallings, 88, of 521 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville, NC, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton. Mrs. Stallings was born in Gates County on January 28, 1927 and was the daughter of the late J. Lester and Viola Winslow Rountree. A homemaker, she had retired as an assistant Kindergarten teacher at Sunbury Elementary School. Raised in the fellowship of Hobbsville Baptist Church, after marriage she became a faithful member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church where she was active in the Adult Sunday School Class and had served in many capacities of the church's work through the years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne Stallings, and by her brother, Lester Frank Rountree. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Alfred F. "June Bug" Stallings, Jr.; a son, Scotty F. Stallings and wife Cindy; two grandchildren, Lori Stallings Lolies and husband Nick and Adam Scott Stallings and wife Samantha; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Aiden Lolies; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Jesse Croom and the Rev. Tim Dannelly. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery.
