Donald Robert Williams, 78, of the Snug Harbor community of Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in his home. Mr. Williams was born in Kingston, PA on February 23, 1937, and was the son of the late Donald Thomas and Mary Madalene Carle Williams. A retired First Sergeant from the United States Marine Corps, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served three tours of duty, and receiving numerous medals and awards, including the Purple Heart. Following his military career, he had been employed for several years with 7-Up in Virginia Beach, VA. A member of Snug Harbor Community Church, in just the last year he was ordained a minister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in the death by his wives, Mable Ruth Balleck Williams and Brenda Julian Williams. Surviving are his two daughters, Miriam Ruth Slantis and husband James of Stafford, VA and Susan Diane Devers and husband James of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Becky D'Amico and husband Tom of Bethany Beach, MD and Gail Weller of Richmond, VA; two brothers, David Williams and wife Gloria Jean of Severn, MD and Van Williams and wife Pina of Lillington; four grandchildren, James, Philip, Amber, and Heather; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Katelyn, Max, Nicholas, and Kristen; and a great-great-granddaughter, Bailey. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Snug Harbor Community Church by the Revs. Howard Sutton and Stanley Nixon. Burial with military honors will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
