Marginette Furlough Lassiter, 91, of 125 Poplar Neck Road, Edenton, NC, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 in her home where she was surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry V. Lassiter, Sr., and ten brothers and sisters. Mrs. Lassiter was born in Plymouth, NC on April 25, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Furlough and Zettie Faire Baynor. Active in writing at an early age, she became editor of her school paper and a member of the National Beta Club. She was also captain of her basketball team. Throughout her life, she was active in leadership roles in many organizations too numerous to mention, but including scouting, community medical associations, community cultural organizations, volunteer organizations to help the needy, leadership roles in the Business and Professional Women organization leading to Chowan County Woman of the Year, gardening and horticulture clubs, chaperone of the Edenton Teenage Club for seven years, and a life-long career in nursing and home health. Surviving are her sister, Beulah Furlough Whitson; her daughter, Nettie Faire and husband, Jamey Tippens; her daughter, June Carroll, and husband, Spencer Mace; her son, Harry Lassiter, Jr., and wife, Elizabeth; three grandchildren, Tracie Little and husband, David Dellea, Mary Elizabeth and husband, Paul Horne, and Noah Mace; two great grandchildren, Sophia Joy and Luc Elijah. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church by Pastor Chris Aydlett.
