Dr. Philip Silvano DiPiazza, 72, of 109 Greenwood Court, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, May 16, 2015 in W.R. Winslow Memorial Home, Elizabeth City. Dr. DiPiazza was born in Manhattan, NY on January 9, 1943 and was the son of Grace Vassallo DiPiazza of Toms River, NJ and the late Carmelo DiPiazza. A retired electrical engineer from Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as a lector, was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, was a longtime member of IEEE Industrial Electrical Society, and had served in various capacities at Albemarle Plantation. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of nearly 48 years, Loretta O'Brien DiPiazza; two daughters, Stephanie L. Didden and husband Bill of Medford, NJ and Jennifer A. Roland and husband Tim of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Gerald DiPiazza of Edenton and Michael DiPiazza of Freehold, NJ; and two grandsons, Sasha and Danil Didden. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church. A rosary service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be followed by a time of visitation with the family.
