Thelma Goodwin Lane Koenig, 85, of 1341 Paradise Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Koenig was born in Chowan County on August 14, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Luther J. and Leora Goodwin Lane. Formerly employed as a cashier/manager with The Virginian Restaurant (27 years), Food Lion in Edenton (12 years), and Evans Self Service (12 years), she was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church, and enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and gardening. She will long be remembered by many folks in the Rocky Hock and Edenton communities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beulah Turner; her brother, Thurman E. Lane; and by both her husbands, David L. Dean and Louis F. Koenig. Surviving are her daughters, Delores "Cookie" Byurm, Brenda Miller and husband Ken Anderson, and Carolyn Pauli; her step-daughter, Ginger Koenig; two sisters, Bessie Newby and husband Redmond and Julia Ashley and husband Roy; three brothers, Alton Lane and wife Dorothy, Melvin Lane and wife Kathleen, and James Lane and wife Margie; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A private family viewing was held at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
