Elwood David Harrell, 87, of Mexico Road, Edenton, NC, and formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, died Friday, June 5, 2015 in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation, Edenton. Mr. Harrell was born in Chowan County on October 1, 1927 and was the son of the late Clarence Parker and Ora Outland Harrell. A retired salesman, he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a former member and deacon of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. He was an Army veteran having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Ann Hollowell Harrell; a son, Duncan Elwood Harrell; a brother, Carroll C. Harrell; and a sister, Reba Lois Harrell. Surviving are his wife, Annie Martha Spruill Hare Harrell; two daughters, Brenda H. Smith and husband Clyde and Sherry H. Scott and husband Barry, all of Chesapeake, VA; three sons, David C. Harrell and wife Debbie of Chesapeake, Dennis P. Harrell and wife Sherrie and Gregory L. Harrell and wife Christa, all of Virginia Beach. Also surviving are Annie Martha's daughters, Susan Youmans and husband Reed of Davis, CA, Nancy Vincek and husband Edward of Pinetops, and Wendy Batten and husband Tommy of New Bern. Together Elwood and Annie Martha shared a combined 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Young. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
