Rosa Morris Stallings Russell, 89, formerly of New Hope Road, Hertford, NC, and more recently of Cary, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in Cary Health & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Russell was born in Gaston County, NC on January 2, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Forrest D. and Jettie Little Morris. She and her late husband, William A. "Bill" Stallings, managed Darden's Department Store in Hertford for many years where she handled the ladies section of the store. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Church of Christ. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, William Alden Russell; his son Claude and grandson Allen; her sister, Betty Lewis; and by brothers, Basil, Rupert, and Beeler Morris. Surviving are her son, Wayne Stallings and wife Sandra of Cary; three grandchildren, Mali Whetzell, Claire York and husband Ben, and Rosemary Russ and husband John; and four great-grandchildren, Madeline, Charlotte, Carter, and James. Also surviving are Mr. Russell's family, daughter Hilda Harrell and husband Jesse, their daughters Teresa Jennings and Tammy Creef, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; as well as daughter-in-law, Betty Russell, her son Steve Russell, his wife Sheila and their three children. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel by Ministers Jerry Norris, Melvin Styons, and Phillip Alligood. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
