Velma Evans Baccus, 92, of 337 Hurdletown Road, Hertford, NC, died Saturday, July 11, 2015 in her home. Mrs. Baccus was born in Perquimans County on June 2, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Fred and Lessie Perry Evans. A homemaker, she was employed for many years at Don Juan Manufacturing Corp., and faithfully attended Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Odell Baccus; her sons, Elton and Jimmy Baccus; a daughter-in-law, Gail Baccus; her sisters, Mildred Dail and Louise Worrell; and a grandson, Jim Baccus. Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Riddick and husband Tim of Belvidere; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Baccus of Raleigh; two brothers, Hallett Evans and Joseph Evans, both of Elizabeth City; six grandchildren, Elton Baccus, Jr., Jarrod Baccus, Dianna Cartwright, Tammy Ponton, Kristi Copeland, and Pamela Copeland; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be officiated by the Rev. Danny Meads and the Rev. Dean Jarvis. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Elizabeth City. Friends may join the family Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at Brenda and Tim's home, 163 Perry's Bridge Road, Belvidere.
