Ruby Byrum Davis Nixon, 78, of 3010 Rocky Hock Road, Edenton, NC, died Friday, July 17, 2015 in her home. Mrs. Nixon was born in Chowan County on February 5, 1937, and was the daughter of the late William Vandy, Sr. and Ada White Byrum. A homemaker, through the years she had been employed at Dick's Drive-In, Larry's Drive-In, Gabby's, and Nixon's Restaurant. For many years she was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school and had served as the music director. More recently she had rejoined the church of her childhood years, Rocky Hock Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Whichard Davis and Murray Leon Nixon, Sr.; two sisters, Esther Mae Byrum and Beatrice Ward; two brothers, Vandy, Jr. and Mark Byrum; and by children, Delores Hollowell and Lee Fulcher. Surviving are her children, Bettie Dotson and husband Jay, Leon Nixon and wife Charlotte, Jimmy Nixon, Louis Nixon and wife Dianne, Ricky Nixon and wife Denise, Lynda Harrell and husband Ronnie, and Lisa Quinn and husband Jack; two brothers, Wayland Byrum and wife Peggy and Sammy Byrum and wife Peggy; 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in the Nixon Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or other times at the residence.
