Melba Dale Chappell, 92, of 905 County Line Road, Tyner, NC, died Friday, August 7, 2015 in her home. Mrs. Chappell was born in Perquimans County on March 12, 1923, and was the last surviving of seven children born to the late Alonza and Nellie Lamb Dale. A retired clerk from Rose's Department Store in Hertford, she was a member of Hunter's Fork Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 71 years, Lassell Elton Chappell; sisters, Gladys Chappell, Beulah Mae Chappell, and Iola Stallings; and by brothers, Vivian, Julian, and Worth Dale. Surviving are her daughter, Diane Chappell Mansfield and husband Ervin of Hertford; her son, Elton Bruce Chappell of Merry Hill; six grandchildren, Corey Pierce, Stacey Ward, Kevin Pierce, Jolie Raper, Wendy Moore, and Shannon Modlin; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Hunter's Fork Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Dean Jarvis and the Rev. H. Gene Boyce.
