Dorothea Morrell

Dorothea Morrell, 88, of Hertford, NC, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 in her home after a heroic battle with cancer. Dorothea, also known as "Grandma Butterball" which was lovingly given to her by Geno, was born in New York and was the daughter of the late Atto and Dorothea Wunstel. Employed with Canton Drop Forge in Ohio until she retired at the age of 72, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing card games, especially Farkle, and also her time spent with her friends in the Red Hat Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Morrell; a daughter, Patricia Dobransky, a sister, Marie, and by a brother, Roger. Surviving are her daughter, Dorothea "Dotty" Horton of Hertford; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many dear friends from H.I.Y.C., H.I.P.O.A. and her three special pets. A celebration of her life will be held in the Holiday Island Yacht Club and will be announced at a later date. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
