Phillip Wayne Layden, 66, of 12 Desert Road, Corapeake, NC, died Monday, August 17, 2015 in his home. Mr. Layden was born in Pasquotank County on November 26, 1948, and was the son of Joyce Riddick Layden of Portsmouth, VA and the late Carlton Phillip Layden. A retired government automotive specialist with MWR, he was a member of Eureka Baptist Church and had served in the United States Coast Guard. Surviving in addition to his mother are his children, Christy Fitzwater and husband Gilbert, III and Andy Layden and wife Emily, all of Suffolk; his sister, Sandra DeAngelo and husband Gary of Queensbury, NY; his brother, Reginald C. Layden of Suffolk; his grandchildren, Grayson Lee Fitzwater, Nolan Reid Fitzwater, Brodie Wayne Layden, and a fourth, Conley Abram Layden, due to be born in November; and his fiance`, Joyce Mirto of Corapeake. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Eureka Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Bunch. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other times at Christy and Gilbert's home, 3117 Caroline Crescent, Suffolk, VA 23435.
