Bernard Lee Poff, 82, of 117 Taylor Lane, Hertford, NC, died Friday, August 21, 2015 in his home. Mr. Poff was born in Norfolk, VA on January 12, 1933, and was the son of the late Cecil Melvin Poff and Iris Lee Walsh Fairfield. Employed for many years as a site attendant with the Edenton-Chowan Convenience Centers, he was the first male member voted into the Auxiliary of the William C. Jackson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6060 of Elizabeth City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Poff, a step-son, Charles Smyth, a sister, and by a brother. Surviving are his step-daughter, Debi Equils and husband Larry of Roper; a step-son, Jerry Smyth and wife Jackie of Tyner; his brother, Edward Poff and wife Frances of Hertford; three sisters, Shirley Anderson and husband Dick, Joyce Foster, and Malinda Gierau and husband Chuck, all of California; a sister-in-law, Judy Turvey of Herford; six step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. At his request, no services will be held. Miller and Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
