Nette Umphlett

Nette Umphlett, 65, of 984 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC, died Friday, August 28, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 4, 1949 in Perquimans County, she was the daughter of the late Santos William "Doc" Umphlett and Una Lee Small Umphlett. A retired legal secretary, she was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. Best known for the beautiful clothes she made for children, she loved working in her flowers and keeping her beautiful yard, sharing with others, and helping care for her older friends as long as she was able. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Umphlett Johnson, and by her twin brothers, Lockwood and Sherwood Umphlett. Surviving are her nephew, Michael Johnson and wife Lendy of Rolesville, NC. She also leaves many friends that were like her family, Hilda Johnson, Sarah Meadows, Evelyn Overton, Rebecca Patterson, William Wray and Ethel Chappell, Patty Trueblood James, Patricia Caulderwood, Margaret and Tammy Sawyer, the Eliza Beachum family, Mary Elizabeth Cullipher, her New Hope Church family, and her pastor Renee` Edwards. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
