George Francis Gehring, Jr.

George Francis Gehring, Jr., 71, of 308 See View Lane, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in his home. Mr. Gehring was born in Montgomery, AL on July 28, 1944, and was the oldest of seven children born to the late George Francis, Sr. and Fleurette Gray Gehring. A retired marine engineer from the New York City Fire Department after 21 years of employment, he was also an engineer with the US Merchant Marine prior to and following his career as a fireman. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Tully Gehring; three daughters, Rita Imossi and husband Noel of Long Beach, NY, Pam Lim and husband Tony of Las Vegas, NV, and Theresa Arsenault and husband Eric of Rumford, ME; six siblings; and was "Opa" to his seven grandchildren, Dakota, Tyler, Tabitha, Mackenzie, Kenedi, Dominic, and Natalie. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.
