Marjorie White Davenport

Marjorie White Davenport, 92, a longtime resident of Hertford, NC, died Monday, September 21, 2015 in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Edenton. Mrs. Davenport was born in Gates County on June 4, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Frank and Nannie Trotman White. A homemaker, she had also worked with Robertson's Cleaners and Rental Uniform Service for 18 years. She was a member of Hertford Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. "Jimmy" Davenport; two infant sons, Charles Alton and James Robert Davenport; and by five brothers, Otis, Hoyt, Elmo, Carey, and Carlton White. Surviving are her two daughters, Carolyn Hilliard and husband Bobby of Smithfield and Nancy Wood and husband Henry of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Marty Davenport and wife Sonia of Hertford; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, by her grandson, Minister Keith Wood.
