Spurgeon Douglas Overton

Spurgeon Douglas Overton, 91, of 904 North Academy Street, Ahoskie, NC, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in Ahoskie House. Mr. Overton was born in Hertford County on September 25, 1923, and was the son of the late David Lloyd and Eunice Willoughby Overton. A retired inspector from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 35 years of employment, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie. A veteran, he had served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dutch Overton. Surviving are his wife, Jean Umphlett Overton; two daughters, Jeanne Sohooli and husband Ali of Ahoskie and Jill Metz and husband Jay of Norwood, OH; two sons, Tommy Truitt and wife Cathy of Nags Head and Ted Overton of Ahoskie; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
