Haywood Glenn Askew, 88, of White Oak Road, Eure, NC died Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Askew was born in Gates County on April 26, 1927, and was the son of the late John Irvin and Mary Askew. The retired owner of Western Auto and White Oak Shopping Center, he was a member of Eure Baptist Church. A US Navy veteran, he had served in both World War II and the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Cross Askew. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Opal Howell Askew; three sons, Robert Ervin Ferguson, Glenn Allen Askew and wife Janice, and John Mills Askew and wife Janet, all of Eure; two sisters, Gladys Greene and Katie Stallings, both of Suffolk, VA; a brother, Darden Askew of Eure; and five grandchildren, Robin, Ashley, Leeza, Sarah, and Kent. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Eure Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. A private burial will follow in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, and all other times at John and Janet's home, 95 White Oak Road, Eure.
