Jimmy Turner

James Edward "Jimmy" Turner, 79, of NC Hwy 37 North, Gates, NC, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 in Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, FL. Mr. Turner was born in Gates County on October 11, 1935, and was the son of the late Ernest Edward and Della Naomi Piland Turner. Retired as an administrator from Newport News Shipbuilding, he had attended Gatesville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Tappan Turner, and by a brother, Haywood Turner. Surviving are his son, James Turner and wife Colleen of Cape Coral; two step-sons, William Parkerson and wife Patty of Seaford, VA and Donald Parkerson and wife Carolyn of Newport News, VA; two grandsons; and three step-grandsons. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Brickhouse. A graveside service will follow that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville.
