Kathryn Stephenson Freehling

Kathryn Lee "Kay" Stephenson Freehling, 96, of Tuscarora Beach Road, Winton, NC, and a former longtime resident of Garden Grove, CA, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in The Ahoskie House. Mrs. Freehling was born in Hertford County, NC on December 22, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Fred and Betty Long Stephenson. Retired from McDonnell-Douglas Corp., she had been an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church while living in Garden Grove, and since returning to Winton had faithfully attended Winton Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Freehling; and by five sisters. Surviving are her daughter, Donna Lee Hobson of Kingman, AZ; a sister, Bates King and husband Claude of Murfreesboro; a brother, Tony Stephenson and wife Shirley of Winton; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17th, at 1:00 p.m. in Winton Baptist Church. Miller Funeral Home in Gatesville assisted the family with cremation arrangements.
