Elizabeth Wiggins Rountree, 83, of 1262 US 158 West, Eure, NC, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 in Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, where she was surrounded by her family. Mrs. Rountree was born in Gates County on May 13, 1932, and was the daughter of the late John Nurney and Hattie Mae Ward Wiggins. A homemaker, she was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Holmes Hunter Rountree; sisters, Elsie Wiggins and Pauline Carter; brothers, Earl and J.N. Wiggins; and by a son-in-law, James Pearson. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by three daughters, Paula Bright Pearson of Wake Forest, Sharen Bright Winn and husband Clarence of Gates; and Angela Bright Gilson and husband Gary of Charlotte; two sons, Herbert Rountree of Franklin, VA and Mike Rountree and wife Laura of Suffolk; three sisters, Frances Riddick of Portsmouth, VA, Margie Robertson of Corapeake, and Shirley Layden of Hobbsville; eight grandchildren, Jimmy Winn, Billy Winn, Crystal Schicker, Jessica Schmidt, Ronald Gilson, Jonathan Rountree, Rebecca Rountree, and Sheila Kiser; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. Cody Brinkley and the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, other times at the residence, and then in the church social hall immediately following the service on Thursday.
