Virginia Moore Byrum, age 92, a native of Edenton, NC, died Wednesday October 21, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Sidney Lee Moore and Pearl Perry Moore, and the wife of the late Thomas Campbell Byrum, Jr. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Moore Harrell. She was a homemaker, loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. A faithful member of the Edenton Baptist Church, the Bethany Sunday School Class, and the Mary Powell Circle, she was a charter member of the Garden of Eden Club, and a charter member and past-president of the Colonial Investment Club. She was a former Area IV Director of the North Carolina Division of the American Cancer Society for 11 years, serving 14 counties in the northeastern part of the state. The Reach to Recovery Program, organized in the Area IV hospitals by Mrs. Byrum, was an area in which she played a very active role. Employed by the Chowan Hospital Gift Shop as assistant manager, she was known to many as "Miss Virginia", serving there for 10 years and retiring in 2007. She was admired and loved by many and known as a true and loving friend. Survivors include daughter, Patricia Byrum McCotter and husband Ken of New Bern; son, Thomas Campbell Byrum III and wife Ann of Edenton; four grandchildren, Catherine Jackson and husband Mike of Edenton, Ginny Hevener and husband Skip of Franklinton, Trish Vandersea and husband Kevin of Cary and Steven Byrum of Edenton; and nine great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alex Jackson of Edenton, Thomas and Sarah Hevener of Franklinton, Tucker and Chase Vandersea of Cary, and Vincent, Savannah, and Donald Byrum of Edenton. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 25th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Edenton Baptist Church and will be officiated by the Reverend David Brooks A private burial at Beaver Hill Cemetery with family members will precede the service. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting with arrangements. The family will receive friends at the home of Cam and Ann Byrum, 245 Country Club Drive, Edenton.
