Garrie Lee Hardy, 67, of 210 Creek Trail, Edenton, NC, died Monday, October 26, 2015 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC. Mr. Hardy was born in Carteret County, NC on March 2, 1948, and was the son of the late Vernon E., Sr. and Nina Marie Tosto Hardy. A retired ship fitter from BAE Systems, (formerly Norfolk Shipbuilding & Dry Dock), with 33 years of employment, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the Edward G. Bond Post #40 of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon E. Jr., Ronnie, and Greg Hardy. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Shirley Lassiter Hardy; two daughters, Kimberly H. Watts and husband James of Huntingtown, MD and Cynthia L. Maupin of Wakefield, VA; a brother, Ralph "Andy" Hardy of Oriental, NC; four grandchildren, Cheynne, Alyceia, and Sky Maupin, and Nolan Watts; and a great-grandchild, Aria Maupin. A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by the Rev. Roscoe Poole, Chaplain of American Legion Post #40. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
