Johnnie Ray Smithson

Johnnie Ray Smithson, 58, of 722 East Ridge Road, Shawboro, NC, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City. Mr. Smithson was born in Currituck County on October 16, 1957, and was the son of the late Phillip and Elizabeth Sawyer Smithson. A retired housekeeping supervisor, for many years he had been employed with Southern Shores Realty Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd L. Barnes. Surviving are his loving daughter, Winter Brennan of Shawboro; two sisters, Claudia B. Bivens of Shawboro and Shirley J. Trotman of Creswell; three brothers, James E. Barnes, Jr. and wife Bettie of Barco, Dallas M. Barnes and wife Florine and Zad R. Barnes and wife Linda, all of Elizabeth City; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Private services will be held. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with the cremation arrangements.
