Robert Wayne Carr, 68, of 1155 Drum Hill Road, Gates, NC, died Saturday, November 7, 2015 in his home. Mr. Carr was born in Suffolk, VA on February 17, 1947, and was the son of the late James Matthew and Audrey Rountree Carr. Employed for many years as an iron rigger in the construction industry, he also owned and operated Wayne's Stump Grinding. A member of Somerton United Methodist Church in Suffolk, he was an avid NASCAR fan. A US Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Air Medal for his acts of heroism during an intense aerial mission which took place in October of 1965. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister. Surviving are his wife of nearly 13 years, Anne Freeman Conner Carr; two daughters, Misty Carr Barrett and husband Tommy and Crystal Carr; four grandchildren; Justin, Jordan, Tristan and David, all of Sebring, FL; a step-daughter, Darlene Stacy and husband Keith of Suffolk; two step-sons, Jamie Conner of Gates and Steven Conner and wife Kaylyn of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Michael Carr and wife Barbara of Gates; a niece, Brittany Carr Michaels and husband Rusty, also of Gates; a nephew, Jason Carr of Portsmouth, VA; the mother of his children, Elizabeth Hancock and her husband Mark of Sebring; and his canine companion, Lady. Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, November 14 at 11:00 a.m. in Somerton United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. James Bowers. Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and all other times at the residence.
