Robert Holton Cumbia, of 900 Mohave Trail, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, November 14, 2015 in his home where he was surrounded by his family. Mr. Cumbia was born in Portsmouth, VA on September 16, 1929, and was the last surviving of seven children born to the late George Burnice and Bertha Holton Cumbia. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, he had worked as an auto mechanic for his family business and owned two service stations. After moving to Edenton 38 years ago, he worked for Albemarle Ford, Gus Francis' Garage, and retired from United Piece & Dye Works. A faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, he also enjoyed the fellowship of the Hampton Roads Recovery Society. Among his loves were horses, TV Westerns, reading, planting and working his vegetable garden, and the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by a grandson. Heaven has now welcomed "Granddaddy" home. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Gloria Wright Cumbia; seven children, Ann Carlon and Kathy Futrell and husband Don, all of Yorktown, VA, Mike Cumbia and wife Mary and Beth Fisher and husband Terry, all of Edenton, Jim Allman and wife Tamera of Moyock, Nelda Powell and husband Johnny of Chesapeake, and Robin Forbes of Savannah, GA; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church and will be officiated by Pastor Randy Browder. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and all other times at the residence.
