Eva Neth Spavin

Eva Annie Neth Spavin, 100, of Randolph Loop North, Albemarle Plantation, Hertford, NC, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015.

Mrs. Spavin was born in Boston, MA on August 17, 1915, and was the last surviving of 10 children born to the late George M. and Debbie Delaney Neth. Before moving to Hertford some 10 years ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law, she was a resident of Norfolk, VA for over 60 years. A homemaker, she had also worked as a secretary with the Norfolk City School System, and was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hertford. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Spavin, Sr., and by her son, John Thomas Spavin, Jr.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia D. Smith and husband David of Hertford and Susan J. Blake of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Matthew A. Smith, Michal A. Smith, Elizabeth D. Smith Lee, Zachary A. Killmon, and Ashley N. Collins; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and will be officiated by The Rev. J. Malone Gilliam. Immediately following the church service a reception for family and friends will be held in the church Parish Hall. A burial service will be held that afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Granby Street, Norfolk, VA. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
