William Jones

William “Mate” Jones, 71, of W. Fearing Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, November 6, 2015 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.  

Mr. Jones was born in Guilford County on November 4, 1944, and was the son of the late Lowell Stancil and Octavia Whitson Spence Jones. Retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 36 years of employment, he was also a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabeth City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Octavia Jones Sawyer.
 
Surviving are his son, William Jones of Elizabeth City; a daughter, Joanne Jones Coleson of Nags Head; and a granddaughter, Chloie Misewicz.
 
All are invited for a celebration of his life on Friday, November 20, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Big Daddy's Pizza Restaurant, 103 Capital Trace, Elizabeth City. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted his loved ones with the cremation arrangements.
