John Leo Wilburn

John Leo Wilburn, 67, of 1637 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, NC, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

John was born in Portsmouth, VA on March 27, 1948, and was the son of Harriett Wilburn of Portsmouth and the late John Wilburn, Sr. He worked as a general contractor who was mostly known for his skills as a custom cabinet maker. He never met a stranger and would always make the best out of every situation. He always made it evident that he had a deep love for his family and many dear friends in the Belvidere community and beyond. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and would always help veterans in need.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Libby Wilburn; three daughters, Angel McCallister of Warner Robins, GA, Angela Slate and husband Michael of Elizabeth City, and Chrystal Conerly and husband David of Greenville; a son, John Wilburn and wife Danielle of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Shirley York of Wichita, KS; a brother, Lawrence Wilburn of Portsmouth; and seven grandchildren, J.C., Andrew, Mattie, Madison, Colton, Brandon, Parker, and a baby due in June.

Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Whiteville Grove Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. William Byrum. Friends may join the family at the residence immediately following the services. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
