Kathryn Lane Byrum

   Kathryn Lane Byrum, 85, of 2227 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 in her home.

   Mrs. Byrum was born in Perquimans County on December 28, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Pailen and Lillian Ward Lane. A homemaker, she was formerly employed with United Piece & Dye Works, and as a Teacher’s Assistant at Chowan Middle School. A member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church where she had served as a GA Leader and attended the Faye Ober Sunday School Class, other involvements included her work as a 4-H Leader, and membership in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carroll Byrum, Jr.

   Surviving are her daughter, Sheila Byrum of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Joseph Carroll Byrum, III and wife Sandra, and Barry Byrum, all of Edenton; a brother, Ray Lane and wife Marie of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Joey Byrum and wife Ashley of Edenton, Stacey Virginia and husband Tony of Virginia Beach, Wendy Gardner and husband Gary of Wilson, and Jamie Davenport of Hertford; eight great-grandchildren, Reed and Wade Byrum, Colton and Ainsley Virginia, Bailey and Trinity Gardner, Katrina Sanders and Waylon Davenport; and her faithful canine companion, Sambo.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be officiated by Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to caregivers Jessica Cofield, Brenda Verzwyvelt, and Darla Wendling, to Albemarle Home Care & Hospice, and to the medical providers, that have attended their loved one in her time of declining health.
