Vera Jane Amerson

   Vera Jane Owens Howell Amerson, 80, formerly of Hertford, NC, and more recently of Corapeake, went to be with the Lord peacefully on the early morning of Sunday, December 20, 2015.

   Born October 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Walter Carver and Rosie Lee Owens.  A homemaker, she was originally from Alabama and had also spent many happy years in Virginia and North Carolina. Vera was loved and will be missed by many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Howell and Gene Amerson, a sister, Myrtle Simmons, a step-child, and by a step-grandchild.

   Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Yeager and husband Jeff; two sons, Randy Dockery and longtime girlfriend Sue and Joe Dockery and wife Ann; a sister, Betty Colburn and husband Delano; a brother, Eugene Owens and wife Sue; five grandchildren, Sabrina, Staci, Marty, Shannon and Paul; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-children; and four step-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
