Ervin Roger Saunders

   Ervin Roger Saunders, 93, formerly of Gates, NC, died Friday, January 1, 2016 in the North Carolina State Veterans Home, Salisbury, NC.

 

   Mr. Saunders was born in Chowan County on February 20, 1922, and was the son of the late John C. and Lillie Mae Evans Saunders. Retired from Newport News Shipbuilding, he was a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, and was an Army veteran having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Saunders, and by a brother, Ralph Saunders.

 

   Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Anna Mae Perry Saunders; a daughter, Jane Overton and husband Don of Elizabeth City; a son, Roger Saunders and wife Ann of Siler City; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Saunders of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

 

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. Private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the services on Monday.
