Robert Donald Dantz

   Robert Donald “Bob” Dantz, 84, of Harrellsville, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

   Mr. Dantz was born in Summit County, OH on November 2, 1931, and was the son of the late Lester Lloyd and Velma Hockensmith Dantz. Retired as a supervisor from Midwest Rubber Company in Barberton, OH, he was a member of Harrellsville Baptist Church. For many years he had served on the Harrellsville Town Council and also as the town’s mayor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Dantz, a daughter, Diane Rockwell, a son, Rodney Dantz, and by a daughter-in-law, Cathie Dantz.

   Surviving are his two daughters, Linda Lipscomb and husband Jimmy of Appomattox, VA and Bonnie Maki of New Franklin, OH; six sons, Gary Dantz and wife Linda of Canal Fulton, OH, Larry Dantz and fiancée Jen of New Franklin, Timothy Dantz, Roger Dantz, and Michael Smith and wife Debbie, all of Barberton, and Bobby Joe Gokey and wife Raquel of Chinquapin; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Dantz of Massillon, OH; a son-in-law, Rocky Rockwell of Payson, AZ; a sister, Norma Santini of Port St. Lucie, FL; two brothers, Orville Hockensmith of Punta Gorda, FL and George Dantz of Tallmadge, OH; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Harrellsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Presley. A private inurnment will be held in Harrellsville Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, NC, is assisting the family with arrangements.
