Thomas Boisseau Matthews

   Thomas Boisseau “Tommy” Matthews, 91, of 1455 NC 37 N., died Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA.

 

   Mr. Matthews was born in Portsmouth, VA on December 19, 1924, and was the son of the late Daniel L. Matthews and Otis Buzzy Moore.   A veteran, he retired from the US Navy having served in both World War II and the Korean War, and had also later retired from civil service at Naval Station Norfolk.   Memberships enjoyed included the Jayton D. Patterson Post 4411 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Cox Matthews.

 

   Surviving are his brother, Dan Matthews, Jr. of Portsmouth; a step-daughter, Ann Ballard of Gates; a step-son, Terry Butler and wife Teena of Cleveland, TN; five step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

 

   Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, by the Revs. Cody Brinkley and Billy Presley. Friends may join the family at the residence. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
